The Chasen: Guider of Souls

You are known as a Chasen whose responsibility it is to escort a soon-to-be departing Soul from their current life to the afterlife. Or from one realm to another.

The Chasen: Guider of Souls is primarily a solo storytelling game about crafting tales of life, death, and the unknown, using tarot cards and their meanings to create the narrative of who the Soul is, what their life was like, and what they need as they depart into the thereafter.

However, not all Souls fully complete the journey into the afterlife. Instead, some become Lost Souls, unable to fully reside in the next realm as something has hindered them from making a complete transition, leaving them doomed to remain in the void between realms for an untold time. 

If you’ve guided a Lost Soul, you will make one last attempt to resolve some or all of “The Hindrances” that may be preventing the Soul from fully crossing over into the afterlife. However, having the resources to uncover and resolve what's hindered the Soul may pose a formidable challenge.

Needed for Play:

• A Tarot Deck: Any deck that follows traditional Rider-Waite meanings will work. 
• Dice: 1d4, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, and 1d20, plus 10 additional d6. Alternatively, a dice rolling app could be used.
• Writing Materials: A printed “Chasen Registry” (included with game downloads) and/or a way to record the game’s storyline.

Tarot Knowledge: 

To get the most from the game, some knowledge of tarot card meanings is needed. General tarot meanings as applicable to the game, are included.

If you're new to tarot, this game can also be a good way to practice or expand  your knowledge and understanding of the cards.

What makes this a storytelling game? 

What makes The Chasen a storytelling game is how the player uses the tarot card meanings to craft a narrative. The cards serve as prompts for the player’s creativity. As the player interprets the cards, they weave a unique story about The Chasen’s experiences with the Soul. This interactive process allows each game session to unfold as a personalized tale. Additionally, the player can get creative about how they record their story - whether through notes, journal entries, or even in a letter-writing format.
