Used Books
A downloadable game
Welcome to "Used Books" a solo storytelling game where you take on the role of the owner or clerk in a used bookstore. As you sort through a box of incoming used books, you'll discover a particularly intriguing find—a book filled with forgotten items, ephemera, left behind by the previous owner. Using tables, tarot cards and their meanings, and your imagination you'll piece together the story of who once owned the book and what happens to the book next.
Overview: Used Books is played in three phases. In phase one, you develop your character and the character and history of the shop. In phase two, you investigate a single book that contains especially interesting items left behind by the previous owner. In phase three, you posit what happens to the book next.
The game’s appendix contains optional game mechanics that can be added to the game.
Tarot Knowledge: To get the most from the game, at least some knowledge of tarot cards and their meanings is needed
Needed:
- 2d6 (2 six-sided dice). Alternatively a dice rolling app may be used.
- A tarot deck. Any deck that uses the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith meanings will work.
- A journaling/drawing method of your choice.
